2013: A Year of Transformation for Novelis
With the end of the year upon us, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what Novelis has accomplished in the past 12 months. We’ve made tremendous progress in transforming our organization into a global leader that is recognized as an innovative, sustainable company.
Over the past few years, we’ve invested nearly $2 billion into our business. In 2013, we brought expansions online at our facilities in Oswego, N.Y.; Yeongju, South Korea; Ulsan, South Korea; Pindamonhangaba, Brazil; Pieve, Italy and Latchford, U.K.. These new rolling, recycling and finishing assets will take Novelis to a whole new level. And, when our recycling center in Nachterstedt, Germany, and our automotive finishing operation in Changzhou, China, come online next year, we’ll set ourselves even further apart in the industry, strengthening our position as the world leader in automotive rolling and closed-loop recycling.
On top of this, our evercan™ product, which is the world’s first independently certified high-recycled-content can sheet, continues to gain traction with beverage companies who are sustainability minded.
The industry is taking note of our leadership position as well. We have received global recognition, with Platts naming Novelis as Metals Company of the Year and Metal Bulletin naming us Aluminum Fabricator of the Year. I took great pride in Novelis receiving both of these awards in 2013 as this third-party endorsement further validates our progress.
What’s most exciting to me, when I think of all our accomplishments, is that I know the best part of our transformation is yet to come as we look at continued strategic expansion and demand growth in our core markets.
Finally, this journey would not be possible without our people. We asked a lot of them this year, and they delivered, so I’d like to say a public thank you. Our employees are the heart of our company and our true competitive advantage.
Here’s to a great 2013 and an even better 2014. Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year!
